What are the Leading Causes of Traumatic Brain Injury?

Share on social:

Attorney Tom Crosley discusses some of the most common causes of traumatic brain injury (TBI) in this video: He highlights that while many people are aware of visible injuries from accidents, there are also common missed brain injury types that can have lasting effects. Additionally, he emphasizes the importance of seeking medical attention even when symptoms seem mild, as some injuries may not present immediate signs. Understanding these injuries can help individuals advocate for themselves and receive appropriate care.

Leading causes of TBI include:

  • Falls (especially among the elderly and very young populations)
  • Motor vehicle crashes (especially in the teenage and young adult populations)
  • Being struck by an object
  • Assault

Together, these four event types cause more than 80 percent of all known TBI cases based on emergency room admission data collected in the U.S.
