January is the best month to revive your health and fitness regimens. Even though it’s cold, we asked around the office to find out what our firm is doing to sweat it out in January and lose those holiday pounds.

Our Team’s Best Suggestions for Fat Burning and Clean Eating

Managing partner Tom Crosley enjoys a vigorous fat-burning workout at the high intensity interval training (HIIT)-focused gym OrangeTheory Fitness (OTF). Tom is on track to successfully complete his New Year’s resolution of 175 OrangeTheory workouts in 365 days!

OrangeTheory touts a science-based approach that relies on circuit training to oscillate the heart rate and ignite fat burning. OrangeTheory has experienced such great success that the boutique gym has opened 10 locations between San Antonio and New Braunfels in just over three years.

Each OrangeTheory class is instructed by a personal trainer who coaches to the formula for rowing, cardio, and weightlifting to establish EPOC (excessive post-exercise oxygen consumption), also known as afterburn. The best part about afterburn is that it keeps the body burning fat for up to 36 hours post-workout. After a strenuous workout, the body seeks to restore itself to a resting state. In order to do this, the body must consume more oxygen to heal itself, thus requiring more fuel — and the fuel it uses is fat.

Romantic HIITs

Newlywed Jarryd Morton and his wife enjoy early morning HIIT sessions together at the local YMCA.

“I consistently work 50- to 60-hour work weeks, so getting to have that time with her that is all ours is really special,” Jarryd says.

Jarryd also mixes things up with an occasional 5:15 a.m. spin or the sporadic 7:00am sleep-in. When it comes to clean eating, Jarryd is blessed with good genes and can generally eat what he pleases, but he sticks to tuna during the work week to stay lean.

No More Mr. Rice Guy

Not everyone at Crosley Law is a gym rat. Some of our attorneys simply enjoy clean eating. Dan Pacheco, a recent addition to the Crosley Law family, recommends grabbing a poké bowl from Hula Poké and swapping the rice out for kale and spinach. Other firm favorites include the hot bar and salad bar at Whole Foods, Zoe’s Kitchen, and Picnikins Patio Café. When in doubt, an HEB Meal Simple provides a quick fix for a healthy dinner.

We at Crosley Law wish you a happy and healthy 2019. Do you have a favorite way to get healthy? We’d love to hear how you do it! Email us at [email protected] with your suggestions.
